Certificate holder

Canonical definition

A certificate holder is the person or organization identified on a certificate of insurance, other than the policyholder. The designation shows who receives the certificate; it does not itself make that party an insured.

The holder is the recipient named on the evidence document. It is not another word for “additional insured.” New York law separates those ideas: the holder is identified on the certificate, while the certificate cannot expand the policy. Match the holder name and address to the contract, but use an endorsement when the contract asks for insured status.
