Special Event Insurance
Review an event's venue, dates, activities, property, vendors, cancellation terms, and certificate requirements before choosing a coverage path.
How to use the Special Event section
This section organizes coverage questions around one event, its venue, activities, dates, property, and cancellation terms. Use the event documents to define the request before treating “one-day insurance” as a complete answer.
- Start with the event facts
Record the venue, attendance, activities, vendors, dates, and property involved, then use the one-day coverage answer as the entry point.
- Read cancellation wording on its own
Use the cancellation question when the concern is whether the event proceeds, rather than injury or property damage during it.
- Decode venue evidence requests
Move to the contract-requirements guide when the venue asks for a certificate, additional-insured status, or specific policy wording.
Questions
- Do I need one-day event insurance? Yes, if a venue contract is in front of you, most venues require event liability coverage as a booking condition, with the venue named as additional insured and proof delivered by certificate. Hosts serving (not selling) alcohol usually add host liquor liability. One-day policies exist for exactly this and can be bought up to the day before the event.
- Does event insurance cover cancellation? It depends on whether you bought cancellation coverage. "Event insurance" is two different products sold under one name. Event liability covers injuries and property damage and is what venues require, while event cancellation reimburses non-refundable deposits when covered causes like vendor bankruptcy, extreme weather, or illness force you to cancel or postpone. A liability-only policy pays nothing for a called-off event.
